System Image Restore

Sometimes, when your system is heavily corrupted or you need to replace the system hard drive, your only option to recover the system is to boot from the Windows 7 installation DVD media and follow these steps:

  1. Make sure that you have a previously backed up image of your system on an external medium
  2. Connect this medium to your system
  3. Boot your system from the Windows 7 installation DVD
  4. Enter you regional preferences and then click next during the initial setup step
  5. Click Repair Your Computer
  6. Click Restore Your Computer Using A System Image in the System Recovery Options box- your backed up image may reside on a DVD, so replace the media with this DVD.
  7. Click Next
  8. On the Choose Additional Restore Options page, tick the Format And Repartition Disks check box only if you either have a new unformated disk or want to reformat it
  9. Click Next
  10. Click Finish and Yes to confirm

The computer restarts after this process finishes.

Important Note – the new hard drive needs to be of equal or greater size than the previously installed one.
