Problem Steps Recorder

The Problem Steps Recording is a convenient tool which unfortunately not so many users know about! Whether you are an end user and need support or you are a technical support representative assisting non technical computer users, this tool can become very handy! You can use Problem Steps Recorder (PSR) to automatically capture the steps a user takes on a computer including screenshots during each click, comments and system information.  After the user has performed all steps leading to the problem, he/she can save the recorded session and send it to a support professional.

Start the Problem Steps Recorder by typing psr in the Start search text box and click the psr.exe link. Click Start Record on the Problem Steps Recorder window. Then go through the steps on your computer to reproduce the problem. You can pause the recording at any time. When you complete all steps click Stop Record. In the Save As dialog box, type a name and then click Save. The saved file name extension is .zip and to view the recorded session open the saved .zip file. The file opens in the Internet browser.

Note: If you want to add comments that help you identify better the problem area then click Add Comment and use your mouse to highlight the part of the screen that you want to comment on. Then click ok. After you save the recorded session you can email the file through the down arrow on the right hand side of the PSR window.
