Save a Windows Explorer session when shutting down your computer

In Windows 7 and its predecessors Vista and XP, you can configure your system to automatically restore a previous Windows Explorer session upon logon. Any Explorer windows that are opened when you restart or shutdown your system will be loaded at the next logon.

To enable this feature:

  1. Open a Windows Explorer window and press the keyboard Alt button
  2. From the menu, click Tools and then Folder Options…
  3. On the View tab, enable the Restore previous folder windows at logon option
