Windows 7 Basic Installation

This procedure is dedicated to a clean installation of Windows 7 when purchasing new hardware or replacing a faulty hard drive. The installation source device is assumed to be a DVD-ROM, however, other sources exist such as, a USB drive. It is important to remember that whatever source you are using, you need to set your computer BIOS to boot from that particular device first.

  1. Insert the Windows 7 Installation media into the computer’s DVD-ROM drive and turn on the computer
  2. Select the language to install, time and currency format, and the keyboard layout of your computerLanguage, Time, Currency and Keyboard settings
  3. Click Next and then Click Install NowInstall Now button
  4. Review the license terms and check the I Accept The License Terms check boxLicense Agreement
  5. Click Next
  6. Select the Custom (advanced) section in the Which type of installation do you want? For a fresh new installationCustom (Advanced)
  7. On the Where do you want to install Windows? page, select a disk which has Unallocated Space of at least 16GB – if no disks appear or the disk has a previous installation then you need to access Load Drive or Drive optionsDrive Options
  8. The installation performs various tasks in which it reboots for a couple of timesInstalling Windows.....
  9. In choose a username for your account and name your computer to distinguish it on the network page, enter a user name and a computer name – this is the default administrative account for your computerinstall8
  10. On the Set A Password For Your User Account page, enter a password twice and a password hint - hints should not be easy to guess
  11. Enter the product key on the Type Your Product Key for Activation page and clear the Automatically Activate Windows When I’m Online check box
  12. Click Next
  13. On the Help protect your computer and improve Windows automatically page, click Use recommended settingsSetup Windows
  14. On the review your time and date settings page, select your time zone and click NextTime Zone
  15. On the Select Your Computer’s current location page, click Home Network – if you’re not sure about security click Public NetworkCurrent Location
  16. The installation finishes last steps – if you are prompted to create a homegroup then select all libraries and set a password, and take a note of all details.
