Manage windows using keyboard shortcuts

If you are a regular user of Windows 7 you must have noticed how applications’ windows behave when dragged to either side of your screen. For instance, when a window is dragged to either side of your desktop it gets docked to that side. You can be more productive if you know how to drag windows around using the keyboard.

In fact, there are keyboard shortcuts that help you manage an active window instead of using the mouse. The list below shows four keyboard shortcuts that allow you to drag the active window to either sides or maximize/minimize it.

  • Windows Key + Left Arrow – Docks the currently active window to the left side of your screen
  • Windows Key+Right Arrow – Docks the currently active window to the right side of your screen
  • Windows Key+Up Arrow – Maximizes the currently active window
  • Windows Key+Down Arrow – Minimizes the currently active window
